Mineral de Pozos, Guanajuato.

From its beginnings as the home of Chichimeca tribes, Mineral de Pozos has transcended through the centuries to become an iconic Magical Town in Mexico. Founded as Palmar de Vega by Jesuit missionaries, the area witnessed the flourishing of economic growth due to the discovery of mercury in its subsoil. The legendary Jesuit Furnaces were raised to extract precious metals from the earth, especially from the Santa Brígida mine, which radiated wealth.

This charming town was not only a witness to the surprising departure of the Jesuits due to a royal decree, but also underwent significant transformations. At a certain point, it came to be known as “The City of Porfirio Díaz” and was considered a potential alternative capital of Mexico. Over the decades, Mineral de Pozos experienced ups and downs during the Revolution and the Cristero War, even facing a period as a “ghost town.”

But the 21st century brought about its resurgence as a captivating tourist destination, with its history and beauty enchanting visitors from all around. Finally, in recognition of its incomparable charm, the town received the prestigious title of “Magical Town,” solidifying its place in history and in the heart of Mexico.
